Threads: 50 Years of Becoming

A year of reconnection and remembrance.

As I approach my 50th birthday, I find myself thinking about the many threads that have shaped my life.

Some threads were long and steady.
Some crossed mine briefly but changed me forever.
Some were quiet, almost invisible — yet essential.

From Ghana to New York, through humanitarian work, kitchens, classrooms, cocoa fields, friendships, heartbreaks, collaborations, and countless shared tables — my life has been woven in conversation with others.

This year, instead of one large celebration, I’m choosing something more intentional.

I would like to reconnect — one thread at a time.

That may look like:

  • A coffee in a city where our paths cross

  • A shared meal

  • A walk

  • A Zoom conversation across time zones

  • An exchanged recipe

  • A playlist

  • A voice note

  • Or simply revisiting a memory

Where I’ll Be

  • New York – March

  • Italy – April

  • Europe – May (cities to be confirmed)

  • United States – June

  • Ghana – Ongoing

  • A birthday gathering is planned for Accra in August (details to follow)

If you feel called to reconnect, I would love to hear from you.

There is space below to share how and where we might reconnect — and, if you wish, to contribute a memory, photo, recipe, playlist, or voice note to this living archive.

Thank you for being part of my tapestry.

With gratitude,
Selassie

P.S. I’ll update this page with dates and locations as the year shapes up, so feel free to check back.
